KHA Quality Webinar: Kentucky WIC Program

On November 22, 2024, the Kentucky Hospital Association hosted the Quality Webinar: The KY WIC Program. The session was led by Heather Watson, KY Program Management Supervisor, and Marlene Goodlett, Clinical Nutrition Section Supervisor.

When screening for social determinants of health uncovers food insecurities, it can be particularly heartbreaking to discover that pregnant, postpartum women, and young children often struggle to access the resources necessary for maintaining optimal nutrition and health. The webinar provided an in-depth overview of the KY WIC Program, highlighting its purpose and the benefits it offers to our patients.  Key topics included eligibility criteria, program guidelines, and the certification process.  Additionally, the webinar covered various health screenings and referrals, such as immunization and lead screenings, Medicaid, SNAP, and smoking cessation programs.  The session also addressed breastfeeding support and the distribution of infant formula.
